About Quietstitch Studio
A Bristol hand-needlecraft studio directed by Clara Whitmore — embroidery and slow craft, taught with patience and plain English.
Who we are
Quietstitch Studio Ltd is a United Kingdom company registered in England and Wales under company number 15392847. Our registered office is at 31 Park Street, Bristol, BS1 5NH. We are VAT registered as GB942817365. Share capital is £50,000.
The studio is directed by Clara Whitmore, who designs the curriculum, leads many of the workshops, and sets the safety standards for needles, scissors and metallic threads used in goldwork sessions.
What we teach — and what we do not
We specialise in hand embroidery and related needlecrafts: hoop embroidery, crewel wool work, sashiko-inspired running stitch, slow stitching and an introduction to goldwork. We do not teach machine sewing, dressmaking, pattern cutting or commercial garment production.
That focus keeps the room calm and the tools appropriate. Students work at tables with natural light, linen and cotton grounds, and tutors who demonstrate stitch by stitch rather than rushing through a project checklist.
Our approach
Classes are intentionally small. Beginners are welcome in most sessions; intermediate students can join goldwork and longer pathways once foundations are secure. We publish prices in sterling before you book, explain what materials are included, and encourage questions during every demonstration.
If you are visiting Bristol or joining from nearby, you will find us on Park Street during studio hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 to 18:00. Enquiries outside those hours can be sent to hello@quietstitchstudio.com.
How we look after students and craft
Honest tuition
We explain limitations as clearly as techniques. Some stitches take practice; we say so up front.
Practical safety
Every session opens with a short briefing on sharp tools. Goldwork includes extra handling notes.
Thoughtful materials
We favour quality linen, cotton and wool threads suited to handwork, with leftovers reused where sensible.
