How we teach

What to expect when you book

Small groups

Most workshops cap at eight seats so demonstrations stay visible and questions can be answered at your hoop.

Safety first

We brief every class on needle and scissor handling before work begins. Goldwork sessions include extra guidance on sharp metal threads.

Calm pace

Sessions are unhurried. Tea and water are available; you leave with notes you can actually follow at home.

Frequently asked questions

If your question is not answered here, call the studio on +44 117 329 4418 or email hello@quietstitchstudio.com.

Do I need any experience to join a workshop?

No. Hoop Embroidery Foundations, Sashiko Running Stitch and the Slow Stitching Circle are all suitable for complete beginners. Goldwork Introduction assumes you are already comfortable holding a needle, and we say so on the course listing so nobody books the wrong level.

Do I need to bring my own materials?

Materials are included in the price for every first session: fabric, threads, needles and the loan of a hoop. If you return for a follow-on class we will tell you in advance whether to bring your own work in progress.

How large are the classes?

Most workshops cap at eight seats, so demonstrations stay visible and the tutor has time to answer questions at your hoop rather than from the front of the room.

How much do workshops cost?

Workshops run from £45 for a 2.5-hour beginner class to £165 for the four-week series. Every price is published in pounds sterling on the courses page before you book, and there are no additional materials charges for first sessions.

Can I cancel or reschedule a booking?

Cancel 14 or more days before the session for a full refund of fees paid, or a free transfer to another date if seats allow. Between 7 and 13 days before you receive a 50% refund or a transfer where available. Fewer than 7 days before, we cannot refund unless we fill your seat from the waitlist. The full terms are in our refund and cancellation policy.

Do you teach machine sewing or dressmaking?

No. Quietstitch Studio teaches hand embroidery and related needlecrafts only. There are no sewing machines on the teaching floor and we do not run garment construction or pattern cutting classes.

Where is the studio and how do I get there?

We are at 31 Park Street, Bristol BS1 5NH, a short walk uphill from the city centre and around 15 minutes on foot from Bristol Temple Meads station. The teaching room is on the first floor and reached by stairs. Tell us about access needs when you book and we will do what we can to help — see the contact page.
